Kovu gave Amelia a puzzled expression. "What do you mean," he asked.

"You certainly look like a shifter, just an under developed one, out of practice."

Kovu scowled. "You must be confused," he said, squashing the rising glimmer of hope inside himself. "I've never shifted in my entire life, besides when- nevermind. It's not possible."

"Well, did anyone ever try to teach you to shift?" She challenged.
((Totally can't remember which form she is in right now. *facepalms and goes back to check* ))

Kovu scoffed at the question. "Why would they, I'm just a lion. Besides, I've always been on my own."
((lolz. xD She was in her human form.))

((mmk, that's what I thought but I wasn't sure.))
"Well, explains why you were never taught then."

Kovu rolled his eyes, fighting a smile. She didn't give up. He decided he was going to play along. "So does that mean that you would be willing to teach me," he inquired, eyebrows raised.

Amelia raised an eyebrow back. "I could try." She wouldn't admit it, but she was tired of being alone herself.

Kovu stood up, quickly crouching again into a playful position. "Okay, teacher," he said, grinning. "I'm ready for my lesson." He knew any attempt to shift was futile, but why not have a little fun with it?

Amelia transformed into her lioness form, her injured front paw twinging slightly at the action though she ignored it, getting up onto three paws.
"As an inexperienced shifter you need to focus more than one whose done it a lot. Focus on the differences, especially the bone structure and how it's built differently. Imagine it's changing." Her tail flicked as she spoke.

Kovu tried to think back to when he was human, how it had felt. It had been so long though, years since his deal with Rumpelstiltskin.
He tried closing his eyes to concentrate but became self-conscious and opened them again, scowling at Amelia. "It can't be that simple. Just imagining myself as a human won't make it happen," he said with a frustrated shake of his head.

"You have to imagine how it feels, all the senses, the differences especially." Usually she transformed back and forth more for example but it wasn't good for her injured paw.

Kovu sat down and closed his eyes again, thinking of humans, how they looked and moved. But he still couldn't imagine himself as one, no matter how hard he tried. Finally he opened his eyes again. "I can't," he said behind clenched teeth, his patience starting to wear thin.

Amelia sighed, sitting down on her haunches so she could lift her uninjured paw. She stretched it out, the bone structure shifting and the fur retracting to shorter fur til she had her long clawed fingers. "Think smaller then," she told him.

Kovu watched intently as Amelia's paw turned into a hand. Looking down at his own paw, he flexed his toes, feeling how they moved, and tried to remember what hands had felt like. He closed his eyes. They had been.. longer. He remembered his fingers extending, spreading out from each other. Then he remembered how they had felt other things- like the smooth curve of his love's cheek. He focused on what he felt now and realized that the ground felt rougher than it had before, scratching at his- his eyes flew open and he looked down at his paw- no, it was a hand! His concentration broke in his excitement and the hand dissolved back into a paw. He looked back up at Amelia, too stunned to say anything.
