Asinka shrugged. "My father's positively ancient. My mother wasn't too much older than I am now when grandfather gave her to him." Of course, there had been mitigating circumstances. If Rose hadn't started acting up, she might never have been born. A funny thought. She, too, looked up at the canopy. The rain wouldn't last much longer. Then she could move on to another town, see if there was something there for her. "Oh, and if you ever find yourself in the Badlands for any reason," she reached into her pocket and pulled out a beaded necklace, holding it out for him, "You'll need this. Most of the land is under his protection. He will know if you set foot there. If you have this, you will have free passage. Better safe than sorry, right?"

Joseph walked over to her, looking down at the beads. His hands covered her hand, then he smiled, "Thank you," and retracted his hands with the necklace as well. He put the necklace around his neck and looked in the direction of the village. There was something so bitter about saying goodbye, and he didn't really want to. "Well, we're both wanderers. Not sure if we will ever see each other again." He mentioned, regretting the truth.

"Life is full of possibilities." Asinka assured him quietly, smiling. "We may meet again someday yet." She was loathe to travel alone again, but there was no helping it. She needed to fulfill her father's wishes. The rain was little more than a slight mist now, and even that would pass soon enough. She needed to be out on her way before dark.
"It was good to meet you, Joseph. Farewell." In a flash, Asinka darted away, a dark furred coyote, and disappeared into the underbrush.

Joseph nodded slowly and before he could even respond, or try to think about what to do next, she was gone. He grabbed the necklace she had given him, watching he shadow fade away in the distance. He looked down, then turned toward the village and started walking. He sighed, wondering if he should have asked to travel with her, and how much he would regret the choice. He knew it was better off alone, but even so, why did it hurt so much sometimes?
