Asinka never felt so insecure as she did in human villages. Despite flawless shapeshifting into other forms, there was no getting rid of her more canine features when shifted into her human shape. She'd been forced to snatch a cloak and gloves to conceal her bestial nature. She wouldn't be there long, though. All she needed was a better place to rest from her travels. She'd grown weary of sleeping in trees and caves. She stalked down the village road, eyeing the stalls lining it. Nothing good to steal, really.

(( For whatever reason is wasn't showing as new on the boards, sorry.))
Joseph handed the last of the meat he had gathered to one of the shop owners, receiving coins. He placed the money in his pocket, then ran his fingers over one of his pig tails. He looked around, then put his hand under his horse's muzzle and lead her over to one of the barns outside the in. He shut the door, then looked at the road, noticing someone in a cloak walking by and eyeing something. He took a bucket from the stall and went out to get some water, passing the stranger on his way. He paused and looked behind him, "If you don't mind me saying, you look a little weary traveler."

(It's okay. :3 )
Asinka paused in her steps, and turned around to face Joseph. She tried to keep her tail from twitching. The horse's scent was good, and making her stomach growl. It'd been a while since she'd had horse meat; she'd mostly had rabbit and fish recently. She just had to wait until this new guy left. "Yes, I suppose I am, sir. It's been a long road for me." She reached a gloved hand up to tug her hood further down and keep her face shadowed. It was hard to talk and hide her fangs at the same time. "Is this inn any good?"

Joseph wasn't sure, but she looked- different? - He just tried not to think about it. He looked up for a moment, as if waiting for someone to scold him. He then smiled, "Yeah, it is actually. Hey, I know the inn keeper, I could probably get you a good deal." He confessed, knowing that the inn keeper owed him a favor. He knew, from the years of speaking with his mother, that kindness was a weakness his family held.

Asinka was a little surprised by the kind offer. Few enough people in the West were willing to help a total stranger. Of course, he certainly wouldn't be so kind if he knew what she really was. Her nose twitched when she got a whiff of rain in the air. She would have to take the offer if she wanted to stay dry. Hopefully the innkeep wasn't a nosy sort and no one would barge in when she didn't have a cloak on. She'd hate to have to kill them all and leave while it was still raining. Wet fur was awful.
"Uh, thank you. A kind offer, indeed. Very rare these days." She said quietly, tugging her cloak tighter around her. "There'll be rain soon. A warm bed at a good price would be very much welcome tonight."

Joseph chuckled lightly, "It runs in the family, I'm told." He walked over to a well and drew some water, walking back to the stable. "The entrance is this way," he lead the way into the inn. Joseph walked to the keeper, explaining the situation and looking over to the stranger with the cloak.
"I'm afraid we have no room left." He huffed, to which Joseph presumed meant he had room, just none for travelers with cloaks. Joseph narrowed his eyes, then sighed, walking back over to Asinka. "Looks like their full, but don't worry, you can take my room. I planned to sleep out with my horse anyway," He lied, smiling a bit. "I'm used to it, so don't worry about me. Here, I'll show you up."
The inn keeper crossed his arms and shook his head at the two.

Asinka followed Joseph inside, and waited by the door while he spoke with the innkeeper. She didn't miss the suspicious glares he kept giving her, and knew before Joseph came back to her that she wouldn't be welcome there. It wasn't the first time it had happened. Last time an innkeep had refused to give her shelter, she'd eaten the owner's dog on her way out. Not a good decision in hindsight, as the meal had made her sick for a while. "No, it's fine." Asinka told Joseph, sparing the innkeeper an angry look. "I'll find another inn." Or a cave or hollow tree, if the rain hit before she got to another town. "But thank you anyways." she added sweetly.

Joseph furrowed his brow in worry, walking backwards down the stairs, as he had already started going up. He walked over to the inn keeper, who continued to stare. "You remember the wood you got to build this place, right?" He asked, slamming his hand on the counter. "Be a shame if it rotted, wouldn't it?" He grinned, then his eyes widened and he realized his hand was imprinting a dark spot on the desk. He jumped back, then walked to Asinka, "I'll help you look. I'm Joseph, by the way." He spoke, hurrying out the door, as the inn keeper was now looking horrified.

Asinka was surprised once again when he suddenly turned on the innkeeper. So, there was a temper underneath that charming exterior; that was interesting. It did not escape her notice that the wood underneath his hands was darkened in their shape. She looked curiously at him, wondering if there was more to him than there seemed. She followed Joseph outside, glancing over her shoulder at the man behind the counter. She couldn't help but pull her hood back a little and silently snarl at him, fangs glistening in the light. He looked like he wanted to faint. It took everything to not laugh at his face.
"My name is Asinka." she said, pulling her hood back into place. "And I'm sorry if I've caused you any trouble."

Joseph smiled a bit at the name, he had never heard one quite like it. He shook his head, "Don't worry about it, I don't have any friends and there are always other inns if he says I can't stay there anymore." He assured her. "I know it's kind of forward to ask, but why do you hide your face like that?" He wondered, although his eyes were fixed on the road.

Asinka frowned when he said he didn't have friends. For someone as kind as he, it was certainly strange he would be alone. She herself was alone because...well, she was too different. Even the people in her own village--people she and her father were bound to protect--avoided her presence whenever they possibly could. She nearly stopped in her tracks when he asked about her hiding. She had been hoping he wouldn't. That was too much to ask for, apparently.
"I...do not look like everyone else." she answered carefully. "I don't want to unnecessarily unsettle anyone."

Joseph slowed to her pace, as it seemed the question unnerved her. "You say that as if you should. I wish nobody looked like anybody else, then maybe we would understand each other better." He shrugged, not really sure if that would solve anything. She mentioned unsettling someone, which made him look around. The growing smell of rain seemed to have cleared the street pretty well, but he supposed she meant him. "Well my mother was a tree, so it's going to be hard to scare me off." He smiled widely, being able to laugh after all that happened was something he was glad for. His mother rarely took anything the wrong way, in fact, she has a positive outlook on everything. Joseph was a lot like her in that way, the only difference being his father's genes, which caused trouble sometimes with his emotions.

Asinka blinked in surprise. He was half human as well? Maybe she could trust him enough. Everyone else seemed to have headed indoors with rain clouds approaching. They were pretty much the only ones on the street. "Your mother was a tree...An interesting tale behind that, I'm sure." She smiled, reaching up to her hood. She pulled the dark fabric back and shook her mane of hair free, ears swiveling around on the top of her head as her golden eyes flashed in the light. "My father happens to be a coyote spirit." she explained, "But not everyone looks kindly on that--not even the people back home."

Joseph smiled a bit, "Yeah, a long tale about an idiot of a father and the mother who gave too much. She was a tree." He mentioned again, nodding slightly, not sure if Asinka had ever heard the tale. He watched in awe as she revealed her face. He thought it was different than what he was used to, and he wasn't sure what to say at first. He smiled after awhile and lightly flicked her ear, "Aww, you're adorable." He confessed. He then blushed a bit, "Sorry, I'm sure you like to be called tough... At least most of the coyote's I've come across do. I've never met a half coyote before though. Did you leave your home?"

Asinka waited nervously as he studied her, worried that it might not have been a good idea to reveal her appearance. But she relaxed when he touched an ear, and grinned when he complimented her. "Why not be both?" she chuckled. She sobered though, and said, "It's better than what most call me." Her people would say less kind things when they thought she couldn't hear them. She would be torn between getting back at them and trying to show them she was as honorable as her parents. Mostly her mischievous nature won out, and eventually her parents would have to reprimand her. "Father sent me out to learn, and cause trouble for Briar Rose. She threatens the safety of our village."
